Round 1 of the snowfall passes as Round 2 approaches for Saturday

We slept through the night and woke up to about an inch or two of snow on Friday but, another round of this wintry weather is coming up on Saturday and crews in Ocean County are ready to go again.

Crews in Ocean County were ready to roll out and clean up the streets from the snow that fell around 2 am getting started on the seasons first snowfall.

"We put a round of salt out this morning with the trucks and that pretty much took care of it," said Ocean County Roads Supervisor Tom Curcio. "We didn't plow anything, the salt just melted it away."

Even though we got spared for the most part Friday morning, the second round of snow on Saturday may add at least a couple more inches for your weekend commute.

Curcio says they'll use a similar approach for preparation and cleanup as they did Thursday into Friday.

"We'll have the same plan," said Curcio. "We'll put some brine down ahead of the storm and see what happens."

With a similar forecast to the one predicted for Friday, Curcio adds that regardless of how much snow falls on Saturday they are once again ready to roll out.

In between now and then he says they'll refill the trucks with brine mixed at various locations around the county.

"We mix it with well-water and road salt," said Curcio. "It stays in solution and we keep it on hand."

Even though no backup was need on Friday, Curcio adds that on Saturday, "we'll call them as we need them."

Frigid air may end up playing a factor into this weekends weather as well with roads becoming slippery from the ice, and that should raise a caution flag for anyone driving Curcio explains.

"You have to be vigilant," said Curcio. "Take care and watch out for icy spots."
