Salt water taffy is now one step closer to being the official state candy, thanks to some Sayreville kids and the state Assembly.

The Assembly approved the bill that was introduced by Assemblyman John Wisniewski on behalf of a group of 5th grade students from the Samsel Upper Elementary School in Sayreville, according to nj1015.com.

The students got the idea after a presentation by Assemblyman Wisniewski about how bills get passed. The bill now moves to the state Senate.

What a great experience for these kids, and I think it's a great idea as well. The kids were at a committee meeting pushing the bill by talking about how the measure could boost tourism. Good for them!
