"Even though these estimates are preliminary, we wanted you to know now for your long-term planning. We are coordinating with many municipalities and other agencies to allow property owners access to their properties as soon as possible," wrote the borough on its website.

After several fires in the days after Sandy, Governor Christie order all gas on the barrier islands to be shut off as a precaution. A gas main explosion destroyed 14 homes in Mantoloking.

The borough encouraged homeowners to contact FEMA at (800) 621-3362(FEMA) and be ready to give your name and property information to receive a claim number.
