In what could have been a fatal incident, an escape artist was hospitalized today (Tuesday) after a escape stunt he was doing in front of The State Theatre in New Brunswick to promote a Criss Angel show went terribly wrong.

The stunt was attempted by Spencer Horsman, a Las Vegas comedy magician and escape artist. In front of a crowd at New Brunswick's State Theatre, Horsman was chained and submerged inside a 30-by-30-inch Plexiglas tank filled with 100 gallons of water. The tank, locked with metal bars, was lifted in the air with metal bars.

According to an eye-witness, at about the two-and-a-half minute mark, the announcer told the crowd that it was usually at about that point when a person submerged could begin having difficulty.

That is when the tank was lowered and Angel and emergency personnel came to Horsman's rescue. Here is video shot by NJ 101.5.
