Are you looking to take self-defense classes?

The Ocean County Parks and Recreations Department is now offering a two-hour self-defense course for women 16 years and older.

Basic self-defense skills such as how to escape holds, chokes, and grabs and basic striking while standing and laying on the ground will be taught.

“This is the first time that our Parks and Recreation Department has ever hosted this type of seminar,” said Ocean County Freeholder Director Virginia E. Haines. “It is a great opportunity for women to learn how to protect themselves, as well as a way for us to promote public safety.”

The class will take place on March 16th, 23rd, 30th and April 4th  from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM in the Program Room at the Ocean County Parks Administration Building located at 1198 Brandon Road, Toms River.

Participants must register prior to the class because there is a limited amount of space. There is a $5.00 registration fee and to register, call (732) 506-9090. Those that attend the class are advised to wear comfortable clothing and to bring $20 in either cash or check made out to Trench Sports LLC for the session.

The class will be taught by second-degree black belt and American Top Team Level 3 MMA instructor Dan Chandler who has worked with both children and adults.

So get on out there and stay safe.
