If you have a hankering for some traditional Jewish deli favorites in the Red Bank area, your options are rather limited...for now!

Shapiro's New York Style Deli has plans to take over 51 Broad St., most recently occupied by tapas restaurant ChikyBoom, and No Joe's Cafe before that.

I spoke to owner/operator and chef Susan Shapiro about the new business, who says they will offer all the deli staples like hot pastrami or corned beef on rye, matzo ball soup, tuna and whitefish salads, and more. They'll be serving up the crucial Dr. Brown's sodas, and for true aficionados, Manhattan Special coffee soda -- my uncle will be thrilled!!

Shapiro, who worked in the corporate world for years while operating a catering business on the side, says she's using a combination of her original recipes along with some family recipes, like her mom's recipe for chopped chicken livers, which she tells me are "the greatest in the world."

She says she wants it to be a true neighborhood deli, "where people gather for comfort food, and feel like it's an extension of their home."

They plan to use fresh, high-quality ingredients, with breads shipped in daily from Queens. She adds that while they won't be a Kosher restaurant, they will be getting their meats from a Kosher purveyor.

Shapiro's will also offer breakfast items like matzo brie, bagels and lox, and what I need to try immediately: cinnamon babka french toast. (!!!)

Bonus: they are hoping to offer delivery and even catering once they get the restaurant fully up and running!

Shapiro tells me she hopes to have the deli open by December 1st, possibly sooner. She's hoping to be open Sunday through Wednesday 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., Thursday - Saturday 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.

Can't wait!
