Shore Man Goes to Prison for Killing Navy Vet’s Therapy Dog
I honestly hate sharing this news. It's hard to believe that people like this live around us, but unfortunately, they do.
25-year-old Joseph Russo of Stafford Township was sent to jail for 90 days on Friday, charged with killing a Navy veteran's dog that training to be a therapy dog.
That Navy vet is Abigail Russel, a former friend of Russo. The APP is reporting that a 3-year-old named "Diesel" died May 25, 2016. Russo told his then friend that the dog died of a seizure. It turns out that the dog was kept in a room rented out in Russo's house and badly abused.
On June 4, 2018, Russo pleaded guilty to the death of Deisel, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.
Russo will spend 90 days in jail, he will be on probation for 5 years, required to perform community service, and most importantly will not be allowed to own an animal or work with them for the length of his probation. Russo will also receive anger management counseling.
