The Door21 Foundation is a community organization of locals that have come together to make certain the residents of Toms River and neighboring towns have the resources to rebuild their homes, lives, and community after the devastating impacts of Hurricane Sandy. They are hosting “Shore to Run,” a 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run Event at the school at 8:30AM to benefit victims of Sandy and bring awareness to the community that our neighbors are still in need.

If anyone has had some Hurricane Sandy related questions or wanted some information there will be Catholic Charities, Toms River Township, and Habitat for Humanity available to talk to that could be very helpful.

Restoring the shore is the main priority for the Door 21 Foundation, but these Toms River locals are doing their part to help Sandy victims get peace of mind.

Door21 organizer Kristen Gibbs says ” We’re not just trying to help with the physical loss of things but also the emotional issues that come with it.  If we can make you feel better about yourself and support your family thats a huge deal”.

She tells us that the foundation will collect clothes, shoes, and…New volunteers. They’re also providing bedding and household appliances to help restore normalcy.  Kristen continued,”The victims of the storm can get more information on the resources and also get the community involved.  Maybe they are interested in volunteering in one of these organizations.”

Kristen emphasizes that their goal is to raise awareness that people need emotional healing. “If we can help you with your appliances and your bedding just to get you started its something to get them back on their feet,” she enthuses, “and then we if we can hook them up with another organization to assist them further thats great.”

She hopes for a large crowd to bring attention to just how much more help the shore really needs – and how many more volunteers are needed to make ocean county even better than before. Interested? Register online at Active.com.
