Partly sunny skies, warm temperatures, and low humidity will contribute to a very nice weekend for New Jersey.

Here are your weather headlines for Friday, August 7, 2015...

Rain / No Rain

We have been tracking this weird storm system all week, and it finally arrived last night. As we've been advertising, this system system is just clipping South Jersey, bringing along some showers starting Thursday evening. We were lucky enough to avoid the heavy rain overnight, which passed just south of New Jersey.

Showers and sprinkles remain possible for much of Friday, but those raindrops should be limited to far South Jersey (especially below the AC Expressway) and the Jersey Shore (especially east of the GS Parkway). The line between rain and no-rain has been difficult to determine via radar (since the showers are so light), but wet vs. dry roads are an easy tell which side of the line you fall (I-195 seems to be that dividing line).

Clouds will probably dominate the sky over the southern half of the state today, while North Jersey will enjoy some nice breaks of sun. High temperatures will range from the upper 70s (where it rains and where the skies remain mostly cloudy) to the mid 80s (north-central Jersey, with abundant sunshine).

Pleasant Weekend

As this pesky storm system takes its time in kicking out to sea, clouds and even a sprinkle will remain possible through early Saturday morning for New Jersey's south coast. Skies should clear out significantly by Saturday midday, with plenty of sunshine expected. It will be warm, with low humidity, as high temperatures climb to the lower to mid 80s. The only issue for Saturday will be a stiff northeast breeze up to 20 mph. That will keep the beaches a bit on the cool side. I also remain concerned that the wind and the departing storm system will contribute to rough surf and strong rip currents at the Shore this weekend.

The nice weather continues for Sunday, with mostly sunny skies, lighter winds, and high temperatures in the lower to (mostly) mid 80s. Again, the coast will be a bit cooler, but still in the pleasant 70s.

Long-Range Forecast

Our next chance for clouds and rain will arrive at some point on Monday. (Models are currently indecisive as to Monday morning versus Monday evening.) Periods of moderate, steady rain look possible from Monday through Tuesday, as a front approaches. Skies will probably become mostly cloudy and the air will become a bit humid along the way early next week. The ensuing front won't have a big effect on temperatures - they'll stay in the lower to mid 80s for most of the week - but the humidity will be swept away again by midweek.

Looking longer-range, temperatures should stay at or below normal for some time to come. So I have a feeling you'll hear me saying "Highs in the lower to mid 80s" a lot on the radio over the next week or two. No 90s in sight any time soon, although preliminary model data for the 10-14 day range (the week of August 17th) tentatively shows a warmup.

Meanwhile, the tropics (specifically, any tropical impacts on New Jersey) should stay quiet over the next two weeks as well.
