Well, after battling a cold for the better half of last week, it finally caught up with me, and by Sunday night I was completely voiceless...

For most people, it's an inconvenience...but I use my voice to make a living! So what do I do?

Well, as I've talked about before, my go-to for a sore throat is Haribo gummy bears in black tea. It's weird, but it works. Usually.

A big part of the problem is that I ATE most of the gummy bears while watching that crazy Robert Durst documentary, The Jinx! I couldn't help it!!

So, I switched to tea with regular honey...which certainly helped soothe my throat, but not enough to bring my voice back.

Next, I tried gargling with warm salt water throughout the day. That seemed to help with the irritation, especially immediately after, but alas...I'm still hoarse as anything.

I've heard that slippery elm (found in Throat Coat tea!) can be helpful, so I might pick up some of that on the way home today!

I've heard hydration is really one of the best things you can do to treat laryngitis, as water helps your body naturally lubricate the throat and help the vocal cords heal.

But at this point, it seems obvious that the only thing that's really going to help is rest, i.e. talking as little as possible. (Which maybe doesn't sound that difficult, but quickly becomes an exercise in frustration.)

It's important to note that whispering actually makes things worse...it's harder on your vocal cords than just trying to speak normally.

So, it seems I probably should have taken another day off, and let silence be my medicine...(at this rate, that might be what happens tomorrow!)

Until then, I'll be perfecting my 'sexy voice.'
