Asbury Park's Carousel is getting a makeover, opening this weekend as a skateboard park!

Forth Union Skate and Culture Organization will take over the Asbury Park Carousel on the boardwalk starting this Sunday, October 2nd for a limited time.

The park will include a skateboard bowl and obstacles,

Boardwalk developer Madison Marquette is behind the project, and has a big Grand Opening event planned for Sunday, including free skate all day!

From 10 a.m., the park will be available for kids, with all ages free skate running from noon-5 p.m.

Additionally there's a special happy hour event at Anchor's Bend from 4-7 p.m., with a bonfire planned on the beach at 6 p.m.

At 7:30 p.m., doors will open at the Paramount Theatre for the 9 p.m. movie premiere of The Fourth Phase, about snowboarder Travis Rice.

There are further plans for the project that Forth Union hopes to have ready by spring, including skate retail, art exhibition area, and an event space. They will also host rotating food trucks so skaters can keep their energy up!

Starting Sunday, the park will be open for skaters Fridays from 2-10 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. - 10 p.m., and Sundays 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. (Skating open to kids only on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. - noon.)

Regular admission will be $5 for the day, or $30 for a 30-day monthly pass.
