Skateboarders at the shore may now have a new home to practice their aerials.

Madison Marquette, the company that owns the Asbury Park Carousel building, recently proposed plans to install a skate bowl inside the structure to be used in the summer. The redeveloper also plans to install two new restaurants inside the bandshell, with folding and glass sliding doors that can open in warmer months and be closed in the winter.

The Asbury Park Skateboard Foundation has been looking for a home, and Madison Marquette offered the plan as a "temporary solution."

If the weather cooperates, skateboarders can hang 10 through November. The building will also host "pop up containers" selling skate apparel and accessories. Picnic tables will be set up with food trucks available nearby.

Anselm Fusco, Senior Vice President for Madison Marquette, said the structure will be a "family thing" where fathers can teach their sons how to skateboard in a safe place.

"This is an opportunity to do something interesting…and it’s only temporary,” Fusco said.
