We deal with traffic and congestion every day here at the Jersey Shore, and we usually describe our commute in how many minutes it takes. But what if we described our daily trip in number of traffic lights?

So, have you ever counted the number of traffic lights you encounter over the course of the day? I did and I have to tell you the numbers are more staggering than you might imagine.

I tell everyone I have a 20 minute commute to work, which I do, but doesn't it sound a little different to say "I have to travel 41 traffic lights", which is exactly what I do...one way.

Think about that for a minute. That's 82 traffic lights, just to and from work. And my commute (in minutes) is 10 minutes less than the average commute in New Jersey. Throw in a few chores and picking up lunch or dinner, and you are well over 100 traffic lights in a normal day. That's unbelievable.

Now granted, I took Route 70 and Brick Blvd., as opposed to hopping on The Parkway, which clearly would have lowered the number significantly. But lots of people pass on the battle that is the Garden State Parkway, and if you do, you're in for some serious traffic light numbers.

If this makes you feel better, i actually made 32 of those 41 lights. Thanks to whoever is in charge of the timing on those lights!
