Springsteen signs school-absence note for young fan

Bruce Springsteen wrote a note for a fifth-grader who skipped school to see him during a book signing in Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Mike Fenerty took his fifth-grade son to the Central Library on Thursday. When he and his son Michael made it through the line and came face-to-face with the Boss, dad presented a type-written note explaining his son's absence from the first day of class at Philadelphia's Masterman School.

Mike said Springsteen "lit up" when his son asked him to sign the note and joked he had to read it first.

"That's how I got in trouble with my first contract. I hope you don't get in trouble," The Boss reportedly said.

Springsteen completed a four-stop book tour in support of his new autobiography "Born To Run"  on Thursday which started at Barnes & Noble in Freehold on Tuesday and continued with two stops in New York on Wednesday.
