This weekend summer 2013 will officially slip into our memories and it certainly will be a summer we'll never forget.

We have seen a lot of people step up and do a lot of great things for neighbors, families and friends as we continue to rebuild. Everything may not be back to normal yet, but it's not for lack of trying by the amazing people who call the Jersey Shore home.

It was such a shame that the end of this summer was marred by the tragic Seaside boardwalk fire that brought the tears back to our eyes and had us all wondering "What next?"

On the sentimental side, we saw progress and some victories in the ongoing battle against Sandy, and our hearts healed a little. Yet the harsh reality remained that we are probably many summers away from being completely back to normal.

I did want to wrap up this summer by congratulating my fellow Jersey Shore residents on your patience and diligence in the face of some unimaginable circumstances. This summer was not easy, but it was a great example of why they call us Jersey Strong.
