The Jersey City swimmer who died after being rescued off Bradley Beach late yesterday afternoon has been identified.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office says 24 year old John H. Ongaki drowned off the Brinley Avenue beach according to the Asbury Park Press.

The man had been pulled from the ocean off Bradley Beach’s Brinley Avenue by rescue crews after being submerged for some time. Four other swimmers were also rescued. Three were transported from the scene by stretcher. The fourth was walking under his own power, but breathing through a respirator.

Bradley Beach Police Chief Leonard Guida confirmed that all five were in the same party. No lifeguards were on duty.
