One New Jersey beach is closed Wednesday and several are on warning as daily water tests reveal high levels of bacteria.

The Ocean County Health Department issued an advisory for the  Lincoln Avenue beach in Seaside Heights. The state Department of Environmental Protection closed the 25th Street Bay Front beach in Barnegat Light while Bennett Beach and Montgomery Beach in Wildwood, the L Street Beach in Belmar and  Stockton Beach on Long Beach Island were under advisory.

Brian Lippai, chief of Administrative Services for Ocean County, said that it's run off from heavy rain on Sunday heading towards the ocean that is to blame for high bacteria levels at the Lincoln Avenue Beach.

He said that samples producing enterococcus volume exceeding the state standard of 104 colonies per 100 milliliters trigger a swim advisory and a second set of tests. Closures are enacted when two consecutive samples register levels exceeding state standards.

Enterococcus is a bacteria present in animal and human waste. The state standard is the border line at which extended exposure presents a health risk.
