As had been rumored for a while, Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj have both publicly confirmed that they are leaving 'American Idol' after this season, following the announcement that Randy Jackson was also retiring. This leaves Keith Urban as the last judge standing, though perhaps not for long.

I think there are some unbelievable singers this season delivering 'crazy vocals' as the judges like to say. Just when I was starting to get bored with the American Idol judges saying basically the same thing to each contestant, along comes Jimmy Iovine to tell it like it is. At the peak of Idol's success, I think the charm of the show was hearing from a judge who wasn't afraid to say exactly what was on his (and our) mind. And that's why the show hasn't been the same since Simon left.

Should American Idol Make Contestants Do 50′s and 60′s Music?

I sat down to watch American Idol last night and was already questioning why the contestants were being asked to be in groups again. Most, if not all, are solo artists, so I wonder why Idol asks them to perform in groups. I imagine it might have something to do with the sheer number of contestants they have to get through in a limited time, but I still think it makes no sense. Then I find out they are singing 50's and 60's music.
