Belmar Mayor Matt Doherty is back in New Jersey after spending several days in Pass Christian Mississippi to learn about how the similarly sized town recovered after Hurricane Katrina.
December 5, 2012 We all want to see the boardwalks of the Jersey Shore open for business at the beginning of the season, and Belmar has started the process. According to our information, FEMA's assistance will pay for about 75% of the cost of rebuilding the boardwalk in Belmar. Reports are circulating that the town, which just approved a $20 million spending plan, is planning to use a hike in daily and seasonal beach badges to help offset the remaining cost.
