Federal drug officials have said the prescription opioid known as fentanyl has the potential to be 50 times more powerful than heroin. But here in New Jersey, the penalties for manufacturing and dispensing fentanyl is different than those associated with heroin. A new bill in Trenton aims to change that.
Heroin isn't the only drug of concern in Ocean County. Though not as widespread, "N-Bomb" or "25i" is similar to LSD and is tremendously dangerous, according to prosecutor's office spokesman Al Della Fave.
Two Asbury Park men and 19 others are charged in what federal agents say is a major heroin and cocaine trafficking ring infiltrating Monmouth and Ocean Counties and stretched from Jersey City to Barnegat and as far away as California.
Heroin abuse and addiction is not gradually becoming an epidemic in the Garden State. It is an epidemic right now, according to one state legislator who has introduced a bill that provides stricter penalties for heroin-related crimes.
