A Washington High School teacher has been placed on administrative leave following the discovery that she allegedly ordered her students to hurl Koosh balls at other students as a form of punishment.

Video surfaced of two incidents in which students had lined up to throw Koosh balls at students who had been caught misbehaving. In the first recorded incident, a boy was shown standing in a corner trying to protect his face with a book as fellow students pelted him with the balls. The second instance, videotaped last week, showed 15-year-old Zoey Zapfe being hit. Zapfe came forward publicly to discuss the humiliating environment in Kem Patteson’s chemistry class.

Zapfe told KATU News that she had been caught chewing gum in Patteson’s class. She said that she was then ordered to spin Patteson’s “Wheel Of Misfortune”, and the wheel landed on “koosh firing squad”.

“She looked over and she told me to spin the wheel and that’s like a normal thing,” Zapfe said. About 30 students and Patteson herself lined up to hit her, according to Zapfe.

“I clearly said that I didn’t want to do this, and after that I found out that you can opt out with a lunch detention,” Zapfe said. “And when I said I don’t want to do this, she said ‘too bad’ or something and I got pelted.”
