August 9th and 10th, 2013, you and your kids can run...or watch celebrities get chased... for a great cause!

The Belmar Chase 5K (3.1 miles) road race isn't the only fun thing about this event. There's also a Kid's Race and a Celebrity Chase!

This event raises money for local recreation departments and there is fun for the whole family.

The Kids Chase races on the beach this Friday evening, offering sprint races for children ages 5 to 14 and a free kids' dash for children ages 2 to 4. It will feature age group races of 20 meters to 250 meters beginning at 6 pm on the beach near 6th Avenue. Everyone participating in the Kids Chase will get a t-shirt and medal.

The Belmar Chase will begin at 8:30 am on Saturday on Ocean Avenue next to Silver Lake, with prizes awarded to both overall and age-group winners.

The Belmar Celebrity Chase is a 'race before the race' with mayors and community leaders from local towns, along with other celebrities, competing in a handicap race on the same course just before the main event officially starts. The first runner across the finish line wins $5000 for his or her town's recreation department. (Mayor Schneider from Long Branch won last year!)

Race Director Rich Kenah ran NJ road races as a child with his father before realizing his dream of becoming an Olympian in 2000!

2012 Olympians Julie Culley and Donn Cabral will challenge the all-star list of community leaders in the competition to raise money for local rec departments. The two Olympians will attempt to 'catch' community leaders from Monmouth County and around the state to win a share of the $7,500 that will be awarded to rec departments of participating celebrities.

The prize purse is provided by Barnabas Health.
