Season 3 of House of Cards hit Netflix yesterday, and I intend to spend a good portion of this weekend binge-watching it on my couch.

What better way to enjoy it then with a delicious cocktail?

If you don't watch the show, start.

It's a political drama that tells the story of Frank Underwood, a Congressman and House Majority Whip from South Carolina, and so as not to spoil the show, that's all I'll say about it -- other than AHHH it's SO FRICKIN GOOD!!

So, what makes this drink House of Cards themed? Well, not a whole lot other than the fact that Frank Underwood is from the south, which made me think of two things: bourbon and sweet tea. And also the fact that, like the show, this drink is flippin awesome and something you'll want to spend all day with.)

And so, I present The Cardhouse.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz. bourbon
  • 1 oz. blackberry brandy
  • 4 oz. unsweetened black iced tea
  • .5 oz simple syrup (optional)
  • 4-5 fresh blackberries, plus additional to garnish
  • fresh mint, to garnish
Muddle fresh blackberries with simple syrup in a shaker. Add blackberry brandy, bourbon, and tea and shake with ice. Pour into a tall glass and garnish with a couple of fresh blackberries and a mint sprig.
*Pro tip: Use frozen fruit instead of fresh to keep the drink cold without watering it down!*

Switch it up:

Use more or less simple syrup to suit your tastes.
Use vodka, rum, or Irish whiskey instead of bourbon.
Try peaches, blueberries, raspberries, or mango instead of blackberries.

*Please drink responsibly.*

See you on the other side of season 3!
