That face you see on the cover of Meridian Health news magazine coming to your mailbox this week is mine, and I hope it gets a lot of people thinking about their health.

Six months ago, I suffered a heart attack while working out at home, and if it wasn't for the amazing, quick thinking skill of the people at Ocean Medical Center that day, I probably wouldn't be here to talk about this. Now I hope my story can get you or someone you love thinking a little more about your health.

I'm not preaching at all. I like bad food, and don't like to visit the doctor, and I enjoy my cigars. Add that to my family history, and I was simply ignoring the biggest signs. And it almost caught up with me, and I don't want that, or anything worse, to happen to you or someone you love.

I want to thank my friends at Meridian for sharing my story, and for the honor of being on the cover. I wish you all good health and urge you not to avoid the doctor. If you are like I was, you will find any excuse to avoid a check up.  But get there. If not for you, do it for the people who love you and want you to be a round for a long time.

Remember, I'll be running in the first leg of the Meridian Heart and Sole Cup at Ocean Medical Center on Sunday, June 8th. Get all the details at the Ocean Medical Center website.
