The Frustration of Losing Something

Did you ever lose something and find it much later on...in the strangest spot? Or never find it at all? Yesterday I lost a very important birthday card for Grandma.

I had a deadline to meet for mailing out a birthday card to my boys' grandmother.

It had to be in the mail THIS MORNING.

So yesterday I figured we'd just get the birthday card in Shop Rite while we were grocery shopping and when I got home I'd unpack it along with the groceries and not have to make another trip to buy a card.

We shopped. We paid. We loaded groceries from the cart to the trunk and unloaded at the house. We brought it at least 20 bags full of food and household supplies.

I had specifically put the birthday card in a separate bag so that it wouldn't get smashed under a mound of groceries in the trunk. I had it safe and sound in my passenger seat.

When we pulled into the driveway the boys started taking the grocery bags from the trunk into the house. I thought about leaving the bag with the card in the car and just bringing out my address book and a stamp, but then figured I'd instead bring the card inside and fill it out there.

It occurred to me as I placed the bag with the birthday card down on the kitchen table that it was likely to blend in with all of the other yellow plastic bags full of food. So my intention was to take the card out of the bag and put it somewhere safe. But now I'm not so sure that I remembered to do that.

I did emember to go into my dresser and get out the address book and stamp. I placed both of those items in my pocketbook.

Of course, I was in a rush as the three of us then unpacked stuff that had to go in the fridge and freezer, and then I had to jump in the car and get to a class at the gym before I was late.

So...this morning....I couldn't find that stupid birthday card ANYWHERE. I looked around the house and my pocketbook. Nothing. I went out to the car before work...nothing.

GRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!

So now I am carrying around an address book and a stamp but have no birthday card to put in the mail.

Has anything like this ever happened to you?

Either it ended up in the garbage, thrown out with other used bags, or, for all I know, it could be in the freezer from when I put away frozen food.

But, with my luck, I won't come across it for six more months, lol.

I will look again after work before I go buy another card. Wasted money. Wasted time. Late mailing the card. Fun times.
