One "expert" claims that if a girl wants a second date she should at least offer to split the bill on the first date. It brings up the great debate again. Who should pay for the first date?

I'll start by saying I'm old school so I think the guy should be paying. I'm talking about times when the date has gone well and there are no other circumstances involved, but for the most part, I think the guy should at least always be willing to pay.

Experts say the girl should offer, and I think that's fine. I think the guy should politely say thanks, but he's got it. He should remember, though, that there may be a reason the girl is uncomfortable about him footing the bill, so if she insists, he should go ahead and split it.

I know some people who like to establish how the bill is going to be paid before the date, which is logical and efficient and does avoid awkwardness, but for me, that's a little too much like a business transaction, and I'm not sure that's a great first impression.

I guess there's not one right right answer on this one.  So what do you think?
