The Sandy Baby Boom

So you're in the dark, stranded in you're home for days, even weeks. What to do? Judging from recent hospital stats, folks were randy during Sandy.

The Jersey Shore is experiencing a "Sandy Baby Boom." It's been nine months since the Superstorm hit the Shore and baby business has picked up at area hospitals.

According to an APP review, births are up:

• 35% at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch
• 20% at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune
• 20% at Ocean Medical Center in Brick

People just love hurricanes and sex.

To localize this a little, there were many people who literally had no time or place to get a little lovin' in during and after Sandy. It's safer to say, people love sex.

This baby boom is not a surprise, as many couples had nothing but time and opportunity. I remember many listeners saying "wait until July, there'll be a ton of new Shore babies." They were right.

A look at Sandy Baby Boom by the numbers shows that at Monmouth Medical Center an average of 4,700 babies are born. As of July 16th, 171 babies were born his month. With preregistration, Monmouth Medical is slated to welcome 500 infants by month's end. In July 2012, that number was 371.
