Story by Tommy Lynch:

When my friend John Distaua opened his video shop on Main Street in Belmar in 1983 he was just another face in the crowd.  Now, he's the only one left.

I have been going to the Video Shop since 2003 when my kids were very young.  John got the movie they wanted and I have been a steady customer ever since. Going to the Video Shop is like going to Cheers: it is where everybody knows your name and you see the same friendly faces for years.

It is kind of like when you go to the barbershop or a girl goes to the beauty shop; it's just a place to chit chat and shoot the breeze about movies and everything else going on in the world.

John gets all new movies on Tuesdays and if you call ahead he will save it for you.  A Red Box would not do that for you.

And if you are late a few days he never charges you - he is just a good guy.

So the next time you are on Main Street in Belmar right next to the post office, stop in and see John at the Video Shop where you can get a move for 3 days for only $3.64.  Go support the little guy, you will be glad you did.
