This Legendary Mantoloking House is Gone!

When I drove by the other day, I had to do a double-take.

This home on Rt. 35 and the ocean in Mantoloking was SO well-known, with a celebrity history. It was known locally as the "Hepburn House" because the gossip mill has said for years that Katharine Hepburn and her lover Spencer Tracy used to stay there on occasion.

In fact, many realtors will tell you that she wasn't the only celebrity that would frequent that house.

And it really stood out after all the Sandy-debris was cleared away and you could get a great look at how this old home remained on its pilings despite everything else that was lost in the superstorm.

But despite all of the residents who wanted to see it saved and maybe turn it into a historical monument...it is now gone.

For the moment, there is just some smooth beach sand where it once stood. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before some other mansion is build in its place.

Bye Bye to one of my favorite Jersey Shore landmarks : (
