Thunderstorm threat lingers across New Jersey on Monday

Another round of thunderstorms has formed in North Jersey as the threat of strong thunderstorms lingers through much of the week.

Showers and thunderstorms moved across the state on Sunday night, continuing early Monday morning with heavy rains, thunder and lightning.

The lull expected by meteorologist Richard Lewelling gave way to another round of storms on Monday afternoon in North Jersey that caused some locally heavy rain prompting a Flood Advisory for parts of Bergen. Passaic, Morris, Essex and Hudson counites.

Delays of 1-hour, 15-minutes on arrivals have developed at Newark Liberty Airport according to FlightAware.com, due to the storms.

"Some of those storms could have damaging wind gusts, large hail, frequent lightning and locally heavy rainfall," explains Lewelling, who says a "conveyor belt of disturbance will keep New Jersey unsettled with daily storm chances over the next 7 days."

Sunday's weather also caused some problems for swimmers, where the beaches were crowded and rip currents were active. There were two rescues in Seaside Heights according to the Press of Atlantic City, which also reports rescues at Long Beach Island, Harvey Cedars, Barnegat Light, Surf City and Atlantic City.

Summer-like heat and humidity is expected to continue through Wednesday with temperatures in the 80s and lower 90s. Beaches will be a bit cooler with temperatures only in the upper 70s.  "Although the ocean may appear to be calm, you always want to swim near a lifeguard & never swim alone or at night," advised Harvey Cedars Police on their Facebook page.
