Thunderstorms Pop Up To End The Weekend

A number of thunderstorms are popping up in New Jersey to end the weekend closing roads and causing flash floods.

Torrential downpours closed the 42 Freeway in both directions in  Bellmawr at Market Street due to  flooding making the road impassable between I-295 and the Walt Whitman Bridge. The road has since reopened.

The heavy rain also caused traffic issues on the Atlantic City Expressway and New Jersey Turnpike.

The National Weather Service says the storm dropped 7 inches of rain in Gloucester City, almost 5 inches in Mount Ephraim, and 4 inches in Westville and Pennsville.

A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for parts of parts of Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Salem counties for a storm that could bring torrential rains and cloud-to-ground lightning. A second Flash Flood Warning is in effect for parts of Hunterdon, Morris and Somerset counties for storms dropping up to 3 inches of rain in some areas.

NJ Transit’s River Line has temporarily suspended service between Walter Rand Transportation Center and Entertainment Center due to street flooding in Camden. PATCO says the parking lots at Ferry Avenue  in Camden are temporarily closed due to flooding.

New Jersey Fast Traffic

The Big Joe Henry Talent Show was postponed until Monday night due to the threat of thunderstorms.
