I am not the only one in my family that enjoys DIY projects. Check out my sister’s in-ground pool, which was converted to garden space. The setup and design were not as complicated as it appears. First, she stenciled the brick pattern around the pool walls. Then she built four separate garden boxes over a foot deep. The corners are hinged for extra durability. The bricks were nestled in sand creating a path in the shape of a cross, allowing for easy access to different angles of the boxes as the plants mature. The four garden boxes were filled with organic soil for the best quality fruits and veggies.

She spoke with a local farmer about the positioning of the plants in relation to the hours of sun exposure. Now we are waiting for our supply of strawberries, blueberries, tomatoes, asparagus, peas, eggplant, basil and other herbs. She also has additional patio-style planters for more gardening space.

So, if you have an in-ground pool that is no longer in use or too expensive to repair, you can turn it into functional gardening space as part of your very own backyard oasis.
