Two teenagers from Jackson died instantly in a Sunday evening collision in Manchester between their car and a pickup truck on a county highway just outside an entrance to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.

Police say that neither Brandon Simms, 18, nor a 17-year-old were wearing restraints when their Mitsubishi Eclipse careened across the double yellow line on  County Route 547, into the path of a Ford 1500 pickup around 6:15 PM.

The truck driver, Stanley Lellig, 46, of Howell, was wearing a seat restraint.

He was treated for chest injuries and released from Kimball Medical Center in Lakewood.

No charges have been filed but police are still assembling a timeline and details. Manchester PD Patrolmen Antonio Ellis and Ian Bole are leading the probe.

The crash drew response from Manchester Township and Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Departments and First Aid Squad, MONOC paramedics, Quality Medical Transport,  investigators from the Ocean County Prosecutors Office and the county Criminalistics Investigation Unit, the county Medical Examiner's office and the county roads department.
