A wanted man flees a traffic stop on Route 70 near Van Zile Road in Brick Township Wednesday and ends up crashing his 2009 Chevy Silverado pick-up truck on Jack Martin Boulevard around 5:48 am.

Police have charged 28-year old Joseph Willemain from Parkton, Maryland, who has a warrant out for his arrest, with Eluding Police, hindering arrest, resisting arrest, reckless driving, careless driving, speeding, unregistered vehicle, failure to exhibit driver's license, loading as to spill, and throwing or dropping debris from a motor vehicle.

He was pulled over for having an expired registration on the trailer he had attached to his pickup.

Police say Willemain gave them a false name in hopes they wouldn't find out that he had a warrant out for his arrest.

While the patrolman looked into who he really was, Willemain and his passenger decided to take off by heading west on Route 70 before turning onto Jack Martin Boulevard.

Mulch was spilling from his trailer onto the road while he was fleeing the scene as well as a gas can that fell from the trailer.

The pursuit ceased at that time because of the erratic driving by Willemain.

Police caught up to him after finding out he crashed the pickup truck at JMB and Route 88 West and crossed the lawn of the Ocean Heart Group where the truck and trailer split apart.

Willemain decided to run as he was being arrested following the crash but officers put that to a halt.

His passenger, Rachel Katz, 26, of Brick was arrested for an unrelated warrant out of the township.

Katz was processed and released and Willemain was processed and transported to the Ocean County Jail as per bail reform.

The passenger was assisted from the vehicle by Officers and both subjects refused first aid.
