Warrior of the Week

An “outstanding” person, is how Ashley Savastano, wife of this week’s Warrior of the Week describes Sgt. Dan Savastano.

You might recognize the Wall High School graduate’s name for being an all-division linebacker in 2007-2008. However, Savastano will forever be known as a Marine.

“After 9/11, he didn’t double think about joining the Marines,” said Mrs. Savastano.

Mrs. Savastano said that she nominated her husband as a “warrior” because he is her hero every day of her life. The two met just before Savastano joined the Marine Corps.

The 24-year-old spent five years with the U.S. Marines and is currently at the Monmouth County Police Academy as a Class 2 police officer.

In 2009, Savastano endured his first deployment with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit. He traveled to more than eight countries.

“I was just turning 17 years old, and after I had talked with Dan via letters during his journey through boot camp, I knew we had something special,” she said. In 2010, the couple married and moved to North Carolina, where Dan was stationed at Camp Lejeune.

Savastano then completed two full deployments in Afghanistan and Kuwait.

“After Dan got out of active duty in 2013, we found out that I was pregnant with our first child, Nick,” said Mrs. Savastano.

“He knows the difference between work and family, and takes such pride in both,” said Mrs. Savastano. “At 24 years old, it’s rare to find a man like that. My husband doesn’t flaunt that he was a Marine, so rarely does he get the ‘pat on the back’ feeling from a complete stranger. He deserved the world for what he has done for his country”

“Dan’s plans for the future are bold and absolutely reachable,” said Mrs. Savastano. He would love to buy a house, and have a brother/sister for Nick. Also, since we didn’t have a honeymoon or any type of vacation since we have been together (due to military) that is definitely in the books.”

Its men and women like Dan Savastano who make the United States a safe, ideal and superior place to live.

Thank you.
