Prince has been through a lot in the past month. Since being found in Buena Vista Township, the white labrador/pit bull mix has undergone surgery and is now in need of a "forever home."

Last month, Shore Animal Control Officer Chelsea Lippencott found Prince wandering on on Route 40 in Buena Vista after a resident called to report the injured animal. According to a GoFundMe Page dedicated to helping pay for Prince's medical expenses, police initially thought he had been hit by a car because he was unable to use his left leg. It was later discovered that the dog actually had a previous injury from being struck by a vehicle.

Due to "severe nerve damage" veterinarians ended up having to amputate his leg, according to Linda Gentille, manager of the Seaville-based Shore Animal Control. On the GoFundMe page, Gentille states that Prince "would have been euthanized...if Shore Veterinarians not agreed to house him while we raised funds for his surgery."

Two weeks ago, Gentille reported that Prince was "doing very well and has started his training sessions" but animal control workers are still hoping to find a loving family that would be willing to give the dog a permanent home.

"We hope to find a home for him. Please spread the word so he can get a forever home soon," Gentille said on the GoFundMe page.

Anyone who may be interesting in adopting Prince should call 1-800-351-1822. Donations are still being accepted on the Prince Amputation Fund GoFundMe page. So far, $1,390 has been raised and the page has a goal of $2,500.
