The heat was on and a West Long Branch man realizing he was in trouble, swallowed an unknown amount of drugs including crack-cocaine and heroin to try and avoid being arrested, according to Police in Monmouth's Ocean Township.

It didn't work.

Wilbert F. Ellis, 42, was placed in handcuffs by detectives in the 900 block of West Park Avenue Tuesday around 11:52 pm, brought to Monmouth Medical Center and then to the Monmouth County Jail pending an initial court appearance.

Police found Ellis in possession of 80 bags of heroin that was hidden in his clothes.

Ellis is charged with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to distribute, possession of crack cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with evidence, resisting arrest, obstruction, failure to turn over drugs, wandering with the purpose to distribute drugs and also possession of drugs in a motor vehicle.
