Governor Phil Murphy has discussed banning the use of single-use plastic bags in the state of New Jersey instead of implementing any type of tax.

While obviously this will not  happen overnight, I am wondering what you all think of this idea.

On the positive side, there is obviously a massive benefit for the environment. The Environmental Protection Agency estimated that approximately 380 billion plastic bags are used every year in the USA. So eliminating this resource means less material being used to make them and 380 billion less plastic bags ending up in our oceans and landfills.

Now, the negative side of this argument in my eyes is definitely on the side of business and feasibility. I am curious what Murphy plans on using as a replacement and how he plans to actually implement the change. And what will it cost businesses because you know they will fight if the bill to do so is steep.

So, what do you think?
