Let’s face it…Tony Soprano had some memorable quotes…Oh, poor baby. What do you want, a Whitman’s Sampler?” You might remember from a previous blog I wrote that the HBO hit series, the Sopranos which ran from 1997 to 2007 is coming to the big screen as a prequel titled, The Many Saints of Newark.  Here’s an update for you…

David Chase, the creator of the successful series will be the prequel film’s executive producer and will co-write the screenplay with Lawrence Konner, who is known for his work on The Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire.  Produced by New Line, the director for the film project is Alan Taylor, who also directed 9 of the 86 total episodes of the HBO classic.

"The Many Saints of Newark" is a period piece set in the late 1960’s during the backdrop of the Newark riots. The crime-drama storyline will center around the adversarial relationship between African Americans and Italians at that time. In July of 1967, the riots lasted a total of 4 days killing 26 people and injuring hundreds of others. Plot details for the movie have not been released, however, the storyline may possibly include Tony Soprano’s parents, Giovanni “Johnny Boy” and Livia as well as his Uncle Junior. We were given a glimpse in Season One (episode Down Neck) with a flashback to a young Tony with his parents and uncle. Click here for more details.  I’ll keep you posted on this highly anticipated movie project.  You think they might shoot scenes in Asbury Park?
