Following a preliminary investigation Manchester Township police say the driver Robert Fecanin, 53, of Whiting was heading west on Route 70 and tried making a left onto Route 539 south, but wasn't able to do so safely and crashed into the pole.

Police responded to the scene following a report of a single-car crash where they found the truck off-road on the southwest side.

Investigators say Fecanin who now faces D.W.I. charges, cited lower back pain and a loss of feeling in his arms and legs as a result of the crash but was alert and conscious.

His passenger Adelaide Napoleon, 54, of Allentown suffered a facial injury but was also alert and conscious following the crash.

Fecanin was sent to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune and Napoleon to Community  Medical Center in Toms River.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), was alerted of the damage to the traffic light and to make necessary repairs.

The cause of the crash remains under further investigation.
