Are you trying to lose some weight? You may want to separate your food time from your TV time, and some statistics from a recent study may surprise you.

We've all heard that eating and then sleeping is not the best idea when you're trying to drop some pounds. Well, a recent study really emphasizes the potential damage this can do to the diet you're on.

According to msn.com, those of us who watch TV when we eat actually take in 300 more calories on average than someone who doesn't. That is strike one. And there is more bad news.

Studies also find that the more TV you are consuming, the less active you are. More calories and less activity...strike two.

Another study focuses on sleep. If you lose about 3 hours sleep from TV, or whatever reason, you are likely to consume 200 more calories in snacks the next day. And there is strike 3.

So what's the best approach to stay on the diet? Experts say stay active when you watch TV, or get some exercise in before you sit down in front of the TV. and if your favorite show is a late one, DVR it and get some sleep.
