An Asbury Park man will spend the next 17-years behind state prison bars for stabbing a Neptune resident to death on January 5, 2015.

Tyreek Williams, 24, plead guilty back in December of 2017 to first degree Aggravated Manslaughter for the killing of 19-year old Prize R. Johnson.

A 911 call around 9:58 pm on the night of the murder sent Asbury Park Police to Building 1, Aparment 53 of the Washington Village Apartments on Washington Avenue where the victim had made it to after being stabbed over on Ridge Avenue.

Johnson died from his injuries a short time later being pronounced dead at 10:29 pm.

An investigation run side-by-side between APPD and the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office found that Williams and Johnson got into a fight that preceded the fatal stabbing.

It was Johnson's friends who helped bring him to the apartment.

Back to today, Williams 17-year sentence is also subject to the provisions of the No Early Release Act (NERA) which requires him to serve 85 percent of the sentence before he is eligible for release on parole.

After release, he'll be on parole supervision for 5-years.

The sentence on the first degree Aggravated Manslaughter charge was handed down by Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Joseph W. Oxley, J.S.C.

The case was prosecuted by Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutors Christopher Decker and Katherine Butler.

Williams is represented by John Goins of Elizabeth, New Jersey.
