Ocean County law enforcement help diffuse a possible threat after an employee at the Atlantic Coast Recycling Center on New Hampshire Avenue in Lakewood Township found a pipe bomb-like device inside the facility.

The building was evacuated ahead of police arrival just before 8:30 pm.

The New Jersey State Police Bomb Squad determined the device was made in the 1960's and had been used with flares or fuses.

Police aren't sure how the device ended up at the facility but it may have been unknowingly brought to the recycling center by a resident or refuse company at some-point last week.

New Hampshire Avenue was closed for about 90-minutes Tuesday night during the investigation.

The New Jersey State Police Bomb Squad joined Lakewood Police on the scene as well as Ocean County Sheriff Department K9 Units who are trained in the detection of explosives and the Ocean County Prosecutors Office.
