‘Cobra Kai’ has brought the classic back into the spotlight

As usual, Disney waited until late afternoon to make a major announcement, but it’s always nice to end the day with some awesome news. Today, it’s the full voice cast ensemble for The Lion King, Jon Favreau’s live-action (-ish) reimagining of the studio’s animated classic — and perhaps the most exciting project on their upcoming (and growing) slate of live-action remakes.

Don Rickles’ talents were seemingly limitless: An outrageous insult comic, a gifted dramatic actor, a welcome sight on stages and screens (big and small), and a constant presence whose career endured for decades, often surpassing his contemporaries. And now he’s gone on to join them, as the legendary Rickles passed away today, April 6, at the age of 90.

Every month, as dozens of new titles are added to Netflix Instant’s vast streaming library (with even more possibilities for your endlessly indecisive scrolling), several movies and TV shows are taken away, spirited into the expiration ether. Now’s the time to stop procrastinating and do a little spring queue-cleaning by watching some of these titles before they disappear — possibly for good. The first trailer for The House is about what you’d expect based on the plot description: Amy Poehler and Will Ferrell need to raise money to send their kid to college, so they start an illegal casino / underground fight club in their basement, various hijinks ensue, etc. It looks pleasant enough, and the combo of Poehler and Ferrell (with a handful of other funny people) should make for a solid comedy — though this one looks a bit safe, which is surprising considering that The House comes from the minds behind Neighbors.

A handful of Super Bowl ads have already landed online ahead of this Sunday’s big game — it’s the usual mix of TV spots for upcoming movies like Ghost in the Shell and Transformers: The Last Knight, along with a few ads featuring familiar faces like Gal Gadot and John Malkovich promoting businesses and collecting paychecks. And then there’s Honda. Like others, their ad for this year’s Super Bowl also features several beloved celebs, but there’s something kind of unnerving about the execution.

Margot Robbie wasted no time leveraging her stardom into producing her own projects, including an upcoming DC all-female super-villain ensemble film (in which she’ll reprise the role of Harley Quinn) and, perhaps more interestingly, a biopic about disgraced former figure skater Tonya Harding. Today brings our first look at Robbie’s transformation for the title role in I, Tonya, which is a bit more physically involved than you might expect.

It’s not enough to inspire #SquadGoals, but at least the cast of Baywatch looks like they’re having a blast in the latest photo update from Dwayne Johnson. The actor shows off his new squad, and sure, this could be a photo from the Baywatch set — or it could be the centerfold in a Macy’s summer catalogue. Baywatch Squadgate 2016, you be the judge

With a new adventure comes new friends (and foes), and Dory will be meeting a whole host of unfamiliar faces in Finding Dory, Pixar’s long-awaited follow-up to Finding Nemo. As the title suggests, it’s the endearingly absent-minded blue fish who takes the spotlight this time around, but you’re already well-acquainted with Dory and her pals. It’s time to get to know a few of the other characters we’ll meet in the upcoming sequel.

We lucked out this month when only a handful of titles expired from Netflix, but even more (lots more) movies and TV shows are leaving the service next month, including favorites like The Professional, Let the Right One In and M*A*S*H (the series). With Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hitting theaters this month and Captain America: Civil War arriving in May, April offers us a chance to catch our breath a bit between superhero movies and steel ourselves for the blockbuster onslaught of summer. Next month brings exciting films like The Jungle Book and Key & Peele’s Keanu, along with the totally bonkers Huntsman: Winter’s War and a few thrilling indies (Green Room, anyone?). Following in the footsteps of 21 Jump Street, Dwayne Johnson’s R-rated Baywatch movie has the potential to be another great comedic riff to its classic ’90s predecessor. And while we await the inevitable news of a David Hasselhoff / Pamela Anderson cameo, Johnson has our first look at the upcoming film, featuring Zac Efron, new uniforms and a concept called “alpha balls.”
