Brick Township Police have charged a 75-year old resident with leaving the scene of an accident causing serious injury and failure to report an accident after he allegedly struck a pedestrian early Wednesday morning around 5:00 am.

Investigators say Michael Beilis was the driver behind the wheel when a pedestrian was hit between Herbertsville Road and Maple Avenue.

Tyrone Stafford, 39, was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries he sustained when he was hit by what police believe was a Silver Ford.

Police were able to locate the suspected vehicle around 4:00 pm yesterday and made a positive I-D of the driver who voluntarily responded to headquarters to speak with investigators.

Beilis was processed and released.

The roadway was closed for several hours while the investigation was conducted.

Investigators from the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, Ocean County Sheriff's Department and Brick Township's Traffic Safety Division responded to the accident.

The public is reminded that criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
