A Delaware man is facing a number of charges including aggravated assault after punching his girlfriend in the face and head then injured two Egg Harbor Township Police officers and their dog while he was being arrested on December 31.

21-year old Alexander Kearney allegedly struck his girlfriend Samantha Popkin, 21, also of Delaware at the Days Hotel on Tilton Road in Egg Harbor Township around 8:30 am Saturday.

When officers attempted to arrest Kearney, he resisted and assaulted the officers and their police dog.

Popkin was treated for facial injuries and transported to Shore Medical Center, while both officers and their dog are recovering from minor injuries.

Kearney is facing charges of aggravated assault, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, uses or threatens to use violence against a law enforcement officer, purposely causing injury to a police dog and possession of marijuana under 50 grams, according to Egg Harbor Township Police.

Bail was set at $25,000.00 and Kearney remains at the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
