American Division

No. 1 Red Bank Catholic 42, No. 8 Rumson-Fair Haven 14

Senior running back Sabino Portella ran for two touchdowns and sophomore quarterback Frankie Williams tossed two touchdown passes as the Caseys (7-1, 5-0) defeated the rival Bulldogs (4-4, 2-3) to clinch the division championship.

Touchdown runs of 15 and 2 yards by Portella in the second quarter gave RBC a 21-7 lead over Rumson. Williams then fired a touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Emanuel Ross to make it 28-7 at halftime.

In the second half, junior Davin Brewton scored on a 2-yard run and Williams threw a 45-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Najih Rahman to stretch the lead to 42-7.

No. 5 Middletown South 17, No. 4 Donovan Catholic 6

Junior quarterback/defensive back/kicker Jake Czwakiel ran for a touchdown, intercepted a pass, and kicked a 37-yard field goal as the Eagles (6-1, 4-1) earned an impressive road victory over the Griffins (5-3, 3-2) to win a top-five showdown and bolster their playoff resume.

Middletown South scored on the opening drive of the game when junior running back Donovan Summey reached the end zone from five yards out. Donovan answered on the next possession on a 5-yard touchdown run by freshman running back Najee Calhoun, but the extra point was unsuccessful.

Middletown South remained in control from there, taking a 14-6 lead late in the first half on a 1-yard touchdown run by Czwakiel. A lead grew to 17-6 late in the third quarter when Czwakiel connected on the field goal.

Junior linebacker Colin Gallagher led Middletown South's defense with 10 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and a pass deflection..Will Christopher recorded four tackles and one sack, Owen Richter made seven tackles, and Czwakiel had the interception to go along with three tackles.

Wall 14, Manalapan 7

A 67-yard touchdown run by senior running back Anthony Gartz in the fourth quarter lifted the Crimson Knights (1-6, 1-4) over the Braves (3-6, 0-5) for their first win of the season.

It is also the first win for head coach Ed Gurrieri as Wall's coach. Gurrieri was formerly the head coach at Manalapan where current Braves head coach Dom Lepore was his defensive coordinator.

Gartz also had an interception on defense, as did Mason Adam, who intercepted a Manalapan pass inside Wall's 10-yard line late in the game to clinch the victory.

Wall took a 7-0 lead in the second quarter when senior fullback Keisun Sanders took a screen pass from Andrew Olsen and raced 46 yards for a touchdown. Manalapan tied the score on the first play of the fourth quarter when senior quarterback Matt Grezjka threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Alex Dille.

Colonial Division

No. 2 Toms River North 50, Middletown North 6

Junior quarterback Micah Ford ran for 137 yards and three touchdowns and threw for 113 yards as the Mariners (9-0, 5-0) continued their offensive assault to defeat the Lions (3-4, 3-2) and clinch the division title.

Ford had touchdown runs of 7, 4, and 42 yards and junior wide receiver Jeremiah Pruitt added a 2-yard touchdown run to give Toms River North a 30-6 halftime lead. Nasir Jackson returned a punt for a touchdown, Pruitt had a 25-yard touchdown run, and sophomore running back Mordecai Ford ran for a 43-yard touchdown run in the second half.

Junior running back Neno Morgan-Acker had a 30-yard touchdown run for Middletown North.

Lacey 13, Southern 10

Nicholas Maertens threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Zach Brewer with 1:21 left in the fourth quarter to lift the Lions (3-5, 2-3) to a dramatic victory over the Rams (4-4, 2-3).

After a scoreless first half, Southern took a 7-0 lead on a 6-yard touchdown pass from Andy Falletta to Kyle Caufield. Lacey tied the score when Trevor Santucci tossed a 22-yard touchdown pass to Maertens with under four minutes left in the third quarter. Southern took a 10-7 lead on a 30-yard field goal by Keegan Foote.

Long Branch 49, Central 7

Junior quarterback Earnest Reevey completed 14 of 17 passes for 251 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 68 yards and a touchdown on four carries to power the Green Wave (4-3, 3-2) to a win over the Golden Eagles (0-8, 0-5).

Shamar Williams caught three passes for 104 yards and a touchdown and Sekou Kamau caught three passes for 50 yards and a touchdown and also ran for 68 yards and two touchdowns on eight carries. Michael Hall caught six passes for 72 yards and two touchdowns.

Constitution Division

Jackson Memorial 35, Freehold Township 14

Senior running back Aidan Sweeney ran for 158 yards and two touchdowns, senior quarterback Tai Mann accounted for 219 yards of offense and two touchdowns, and junior wide receiver Jaiden Hernandez totaled 121 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Jaguars (6-2, 4-1) past the Patriots (5-4, 2-3).

With the victory and Colts Neck's loss to Marlboro, Jackson will be co-division champion along with Colts Neck.

Sweeney had touchdown runs of 5 and 3 yards in the third quarter when Jackson opened a three-touchdown lead. Mann completed 9 of 14 passes for 124 yards and a touchdown and ran for 95 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. Hernandez caught four passes for 75 yards and a touchdown and ran for 46 yards and a touchdown.

Brandon Bigelow and Ethan Kalinauskas each recorded 13 tackles for Jackson's defense. Hernandez had an interception and Albert D'Alessandro made 12 tackles.

Sophomore running back Chase Enlow ran for 45 yards and a touchdown and caught four passes for 60 yards and a touchdown to lead Freehold Township.

Freedom Division

No. 6 Ocean 26, Red Bank 22

Senior quarterback Tyler Douglas ran for a 47-yard touchdown with 52 seconds left in the game to complete a fourth-quarter comeback as the Spartans (8-0, 5-0) rallied past the Bucs (4-3, 3-2) to clinch the division championship.

Douglas ran for 110 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries and threw for 155 yards and three touchdowns. Senior wide receiver CJ Flannigan caught six passes for 90 yards and two touchdowns, and James Sobieski caught a 13-yard touchdown pass. Senior running back Caleb Thompson ran for 91 yards on 13 carries.

Lamar Hicks had two touchdown runs and caught a 35-yard touchdown pass for Red Bank. Quarterback Pierce Olsen completed 12 of 16 passes for 215 yards.

Neptune 30, Toms River South 20

Independence Division

No. 3 Point Boro 19, No. 10 St. John Vianney 13 (OT)

Junior running back Jake Croce scored on a 7-yard touchdown run in overtime to give the Panthers (8-0, 5-0) a dramatic victory over the Lancers (5-3, 3-2) to clinch the division title and remain undefeated.

St. John Vianney took a 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter when senior running back Jack Farrah recovered an offensive fumble in the end zone. Point Boro tied the score early in the third quarter when an interception by junior defensive back Jayson Bennett led to a 7-yard touchdown run by senior running back Tyler Gordon.

Point Boro took a 13-7 lead early in the fourth quarter on a 49-yard touchdown run by junior quarterback Matt Oliphant, but the extra point was blocked. St. John Vianney tied it up at 13 on a 15-yard touchdown run by senior Kyle Verriest, but the extra point could not be converted and left the game tied at 13.

There were some wild plays at the end of regulation that featured St. John Vianney stopping Point Boro on downs at the SJV 39-yard line, the Lancers connecting on a running back pass down to the Point Boro 35-yard line, and then an errant snap being recovered by Point Boro.

In overtime, St. John Vianney had the first offensive possession and was stopped on downs when Point Boro denied a fake field goal on fourth down.

Croce ran for 134 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries, Gordon ran for 95 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries, and Oliphant ran for 93 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. Bennett and Brian Orio had interceptions and senior defensive ends Aidan Ward and Connor Reynolds each recorded a team-high eight tackles.

Before the game, the Point Boro community presented a $31,000 check to Aaron Van Trease's mother, Debra, to help with his recovery. Van Trease suffered a spinal cord injury during a September game vs. Manasquan.

No. 9 Raritan 37, Holmdel 21

Senior running back Kieran Falzon ran for 182 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries and junior quarterback Logan Goldsberry threw two touchdown passes to lead the Rockets (6-2, 4-1) past the Hornets (0-8, 0-5) in the Battle of the Border.

Falzon had touchdown runs of 7 and 52 yards and Goldsberry tossed a 38-yard touchdown to Joe Murphy and a 34-yard touchdown to Dan Calicari.

Tim Haggerty ran for 119 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries and Alexander Todisco ran for 46 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries for Holmdel.

Liberty Division

Matawan 27, Barnegat 12

Sophomore running back Colin Palumbo ran for 155 yards and three touchdowns and sophomore quarterback Am'ir Martinez ran for 90 yards and a touchdown as the Huskies (6-2, 5-0) defeated the Bengals (3-5, 3-2) to clinch their first division title since 2010.

Palumbo had touchdown runs of 37, 25, and 27 yards and Martinez scored on a 7-yard run. Matawan led 7-0 at halftime before scoring twice in the third quarter and again in the fourth quarter. Senior linebacker Joe Bodin had two tackles for loss and Palumbo recovered a fumble to help lead the defensive effort.

Barnegat got on the board when Alan Nelson recovered a fumble on a backward pass by Matawan and senior running back JoJo Bivins scored on a 19-yard run on the next play. Later in the second half, Bivins ripped off a 62-yard touchdown run to pull Barnegat to within 21-12, but Matawan tacked on another touchdown to put the game away.

Bivins ran for 149 yards and two touchdowns and Myquan Rush recorded 17 tackles, a pass breakup, and a blocked kick to lead Barnegat.

Pinelands 48, Manchester 14

Senior quarterback Ryan Allen completed 9 of 11 passes for 204 yards and three touchdown passes and sophomore running back Jaimin Parkinson ran for 107 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Wildcats (5-3, 2-3) to a decisive victory over the Hawks (2-6, 1-5).

Junior wide receiver Mike Frawley and senior wide receivers Steve Borden and Anthony Rucci had touchdown receptions, and Borden also returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown. Connor Bonicky added a rushing touchdown.

Frawley caught three passes for 97 yards, Borden caught four passes for 57 yards,and Rucci had two catches for 50 yards. Bonicky ran for 89 yards.

Liam Villinger led the Pinelands' defense by making 12 tackles with two tackles for loss and an interception. Mike Hall had nine tackles with two tackles for loss and Logan Russo had seven tackles with a sack and a tackle for loss.

Junior running back Josh Love ran for 85 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries for Manchester.

Toms River East 19, Jackson Liberty 13

Brandon Peins threw for 127 yards and two touchdowns, both to Jake Buckman, as the Raiders (3-5, 3-2) overcame the Lions (3-5, 1-4).

Buckman caught two passes for 86 yards and touchdowns of 15 and 71 yards. Senior running back Amari Phillips ran for 85 yards on 21 carries.

Patriot Division

Asbury Park 28, Shore 17

The Blue Bishops (4-2, 3-1) stunned the Blue Devils (5-3, 4-1) to create a three-way tie for the Patriot Division title between Asbury Park, Shore, and Keyport. All three finished the regular season with one division loss and will be declared tri-champions.

Nonconference

Keyport 42, New Egypt 6

Junior running back Nazir Treadwell had a monster game with 219 yards rushing and five touchdowns on just seven carries to power the Red Raiders (6-2) to an emphatic victory over the Warriors (0-8).

Sophomore defensive back Mike Ford intercepted his conference-leading eighth pass of the season.

Saturday, Oct. 22

Constitution Division

Marlboro 14, No. 7 Colts Neck 0

Junior running back Matt Cassidy ran for two touchdowns and Marlboro's defense bottled up Colts Neck's potent rushing attack to lead the Mustangs (5-3, 3-2) past the Cougars (6-2, 4-1) and clinch a playoff spot for the first time since 1999.

The victory also means Jackson Memorial and Colts Neck will share the division title as Constitution Division co-champions.

Cassidy had a fantastic overall game with 191 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 35 carries plus seven tackles with four tackles for loss and one sack on defense. Marlboro held Colts Neck running Chris Scully to 30 yards rushing on 11 carries and limited the Cougars to 98 yards of offense. Scully entered the game with over 1,100 yards rushing.

The victory also clinched Marlboro's first playoff berth since 1999.

Howell 14, Freehold 13

Junior wide receiver Kevin Maloney had a 20-yard touchdown catch and sophomore running back Anthony Rivera ran for a touchdown as the Rebels (4-4, 2-3) edged the Colonials (0-8, 0-5).

Freedom Division

Brick 28, Brick Memorial 20

Senior quarterback AJ Grygiel ran for two touchdowns and tossed another to senior tight end Tyson Lopez as the Dragons (4-4, 3-2) took down the rival Mustangs (4-4, 3-2) and eliminated Brick Memorial from playoff contention.

Grygiel had two 1-yard touchdown runs and threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Lopez. Junior running back Travis Trempy scored on an 11-yard touchdown run and junior running back Jake Toye ran for a team-high 69 yards.

Brick's defense had several major contributors that combined to hold Brick Memorial junior quarterback Connor Dietz to just 45 yards rushing. Dietz had two 1-yard touchdown runs and threw for 140 yards. He was disqualified from the game in the fourth quarter after being flagged for his second unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and was replaced by junior Josh Voorhees with the Mustangs trailing 28-14. Jeremiah Crispin made a great diving catch down to the 5-yard line on a pass from Voorhees that led to a Kevin Andrews 2-yard touchdown run, which cut Brick's lead to 28-20 with just over four minutes left. Brick stopped Brick Memorial on downs, however, and then ran out the clock with a late first down.

Junior defensive lineman Will Walsh had multiple hits for loss and a sack, Toye had a sack and a tackle for loss, and senior cornerback Logan Donnelly intercepted a pass deep in his own territory and returned it 51 yards.

Sophomore running back Kevin Andrews ran for a game-high 90 yards and a touchdown and Crispin caught two passes for 83 yards for Brick Memorial.

Independence Division

Manasquan 34, Monmouth 24

Senior quarterback Brett Patten completed 26 of 33 passes for 285 yards and four touchdowns to set the Manasquan single-game completions record and lead the Warriors (4-3, 2-3) past the Falcons (2-6,1-4) for their fourth straight victory.

Jack Dettlinger caught eight passes for 101 yards and three touchdowns and Caden Eastmond caught three passes for 31 yards and a touchdown. Julian Walthall caught eight passes for 49 yards and senior running back Torey Falkinburg ran for 38 yards and a touchdown.

Anthony Jehn completed 10 of 16 passes for 174 yards and two touchdowns for Monmouth. Jehn tossed an 80-yard touchdown pass to senior running back Julian Jones and a 30-yard touchdown pass to senior wideout Tahaj Wiggins. The Falcons did intercept Patten twice for touchdowns with Jaylen Harris returning a pick 78 yards for a touchdown and Nasir Watson delivering a 49-yard pick-6.

Patriot Division

Lakewood 22, Point Beach 21

Nonconference

Keansburg 47, KIPP Academy 8

Dajuan Weems ran for 113 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries and the Titans (1-6) defeated KIPP Cooper Norcross of Camden to pick up their first win of the season.

Jaheim Hill ran for a touchdown and threw a 1-yard touchdown to Riely Jankowski, while Shane Debow and Nasun Lee also had rushing touchdowns.
