It's no surprise that the Garden State is home to some of the oldest cities in the United States. Going back to the early days of our country, New Jersey has played a huge role in shaping where we are today as a nation.

As time went by, however, new cities have formed and others have disappeared. Still, some manage to withstand the test of time.

Not only is New Jersey home to some of the 50 oldest cities in America, but those cities also play a huge role in New Jersey's economy. It's no wonder The Garden State plays a big part in shaping where our country is today, and will be in the future.

3 NJ cities land among the top 50 oldest in America

Did any of the results surprise you? If anything, it's more surprising that more New Jersey cities didn't make the list.

What isn't surprising, however, are the cities that did make the national list. Jersey City, Newark, and South Orange all land among the nation's oldest cities, with all three dating back to the 1600s.

It's really amazing when you think about how historic a state like New Jersey is and what an important role it played at the very beginning of our nation's existence. Such incredible history right here in The Great Garden State.
