Cheap Trick Live In New Jersey

Cheap Trick formed in 1973 in Rockford, Illinois. They were formed by Rick Nielsen, Robin Zander, Tom Petersson, and Bun E. Carlos. The group rose to fame in the late 1970s with the live album Cheap Trick at Budokan, which produced classics like “I Want You to Want Me” and “Surrender.” Their catchy melodies, witty lyrics, and electric stage presence made them favorites both in the U.S. and Japan.

They had the #1 song in America with the 1988 ballad “The Flame.” Cheap Trick has continued performing and recording for decades, earning induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016.

So 52 years later, Cheap Trick was back in Jersey at the Hard Rock Casino in Atlantic City. Their lineup is the same, except that on drums, it's Dax Nielsen, Rick's son. Bun E. Carlos is no longer with the band.

Olive Vox opened the show. A very young band from Dallas, Texas. They seemed very excited to tour with Cheap Trick, and it was their first visit to the Hard Rock in Atlantic City.

Cheap Trick was out next, at they rocked the crowd as they played for around 2 hours and hit all their favorites plus some gems you don't always hear, like Heaven Tonight, Need Your Love, and Southern Girls.

The guys were in good form and gave us a great show, and after all these years, it's always a fun time with Cheap Trick. I saw my first show in 1980 at the Spectrum in Philadelphia and loved them ever since.
