Thousands of Grinches Expected to Flood NJ Town for Holiday Event
History of the Grinch
Dr. Seuss wrote How the Grinch Stole Christmas! in 1957 after realizing he was annoyed by how commercial Christmas had become. That feeling inspired him to create the Grinch, a grouchy character who tries to stop Christmas by stealing everything people use to celebrate.

As he worked, the story turned into a simple message about how Christmas is really about togetherness, not presents. He wrote the rhymes, drew the pictures, and the book quickly became a classic.
